The web is a mystical arena. The more you explore, the more you excavate. As web 2.0 is on with full swing, Web 3.0 makes it way. If one would have to explain the web in a literary flavor, it would be like this "a phoenix that rises from its ashes". Every time a new technology comes in vogue; it is like a rebirth of the older ones, rather an intelligent extension.

Technological evangelists have coined the term "semantic web" for future web. But that is not too far. John Markoff from New York Times has an interesting take on semantic web as he says, "In its current state, the web is often described as being in the Lego phase, with all of its different parts capable of connecting to one another. Those who envision the next phase, Web 3.0, see it as an era when machines will start to do seemingly intelligent things."

Web is ever evolving. Web 3.0 is like a new state where there will be a fusion of artificial intelligence and semantic web. The computers will get a more human touch and it will execute a more actionable insight. Today when we see websites, they are gateways to rich information. There are innumerable terabytes of information that are lying hidden inside HTML pages that our computers cannot process. But very soon, we will cross this portal too. As Web 3.0 will come in vogue, websites will no more be limited to mere information but will get metamorphosed into useful web services.

The term Web 2.0 was first used by Dale Dougherty- the Vice President to O'Reilly Media. This term created a buzz since 2004 and very soon predictions foresee another web transition that is called "Web 3.0". Web 2.0 throws spotlight on social networking and a collaborative interface. Web 3.0 will deal deeply with "intelligent web applications" that would comprise natural language processes and other machine based reasoning and applications. With the evolution of Web 3.0, we will see more uses of programming interfaces, APIs, data, open-source platforms and utilizing open tools.

No more will you have to worry about your profiles. Web 3.0 will bring in a fresh new breath with open identity and ability to access personal data from anywhere. The vision is enriched. Web 3.0 will not be limited to any device and will pace up. This 3.0 genre will allow you to commute between database to database or between programs. This will be instrumentalized by XML technologies such as RDF Schema, SPARQL as well as OWL.

More on Web 3.0 will reveal a kind of a 3D space and you can see such an example at www.secondlife.com/. Web 3.0 is far beyond the physical and will be more of an imaginary virtual space where you can reach out to anything at a single go.

Web transitions have been beautiful. When web 1.0 came in, it brought in vibrant facets of internet and web 2.0 crossed that too. Today we connect with anyone across the globe. But what lies ahead is not just a surreal thought. You will literally find hues of life coming out of the screen and playing with you! The web is changing smartly and small ideas are making it big. There will be a time when you will just think and actions will take place according to your mind game.

Web 2.0 is what we called Read-Write web. People are connecting via social networking, blogging, tags, RSS as well as contributing in Wikis. Web pages are written in HTML that defines the information structure but not semantics. So if computers could actually realize the meaning behind this information, it could understand what we need easily. This would help us to get what we want. This is what Web 3.0 aims at. Web has only documents today but what we need is more from the web. So Web 3.0 would be an effective approach to realize relationship between things, people as well as products. There will be a time when you won't even require taking out your phones to get connected. You will find sharing buttons right in front of you. All you need to do is think and touch! Web 3.o will understand your interest and discover a plethora of options for you to pick and choose!

Here is an interesting slideshow that sums up the beautiful Web 3.0 era.
